Drama Warehouse

Drama Warehouse is a program that aims to teach middle and high school students the fundamentals of theatre, from auditions through performance. The North Central Louisiana Arts Council contracts with a local theatre professional or drama educator to conduct auditions, cast the play, and lead rehearsals. Participants have the opportunity to learn about acting, costuming, set design, theatre etiquette, lighting, and sound.

The Drama Warehouse program was first announced in December 1993, and its first production was Cinderella, held at Ruston's Dixie Theater on April 15, 1994. Since that time, the program has traveled to each of the five parishes within NCLAC's area of service: Lincoln, Bienville, Claiborne, Jackson, and Union.

Drama Warehouse 2012 Jonesboro, Louisiana Every Thursday in April

NCLAC is partnering with the Jackson Parish Library and the Drama Club from Jonesboro High School for this years Drama Warehouse.  Currently we are seeking funding for this well deserved literacy based project.  This year's line-up includes a folk story-telling focus.  Literacy leads to academic success, and research shows that dramatic activities increase literacy.  North Louisiana folk tales will offer a unique way of pairing literacy and theatre, in addition to preserving and continuing our region's important traditions.  From Jimmie Davis to the Sim-Ellis House, Jackson Parish history is a jewel to preserve.

Coordinator Allie Bennett, a theatre proffesional and small-business owner, works with NCLAC on many of our MARK (Making Art Reach Kids) programs, and is a believer in the potential of children.  Under her direction, students will explore creative dramatics as well as hone reading, writing, and discussion skills.

Please consider partnering with us.  Those who make a donation of $50 will be thanked by name on the Drama Warehouse t-shirt.  Those who donate at the $100 level will receive a free t-shirt.  Thank you for supporting the arts and education.  If you wish to make a donation online hit the "donate now" button on the homepage of this website.  You can also mail a check to PO Box 911, Ruston, LA 71273.  Be sure to write "Drama Warehouse" in the memo line.
